Ethoxylated nonylphenol (NPE) is a family of non-ionic surfactants produced through the ethoxylation of nonylphenol. The “10 moles” refers to the average number of ethylene oxide units added to the nonylphenol molecule; this directly influences properties such as water solubility and detergency.

NPE-10 is soluble in water and many organic solvents, and it remains stable in the presence of acids and alkalis, as well as in hard water.
